Why does updating an item's time stamp make it disappear?

Scenario:
"I've just updated the timestamp of an item but it's disappeared from my main page, category pages as well as the archives! It's still there in my admin area but no one can see it. How can I get it back?"

Solution:
Due to the time difference between your local time and the server time, your item may have been posted to the future for the server. Thus, the item will not show until that particular time has elapsed for the system. You can either change the item's timestamp to be earlier or you can just wait for it to reappear.
