Installation & Configuration

How can I move my Nucleus site to another server or domain?

Sometimes you switch to another webhosting provider, or want to present your site under a new domain name. In such a situation, you will need to move your Nucleus site. These are the steps you need to follow in order to achieve this.

Create the new site
On your current site, check which version of Nucleus you are running. You will need to install the same version of Nucleus on your new site, otherwise restoring the backup of your old site will be much harder. All versions of Nucleus from 2.0 onwards are available for download here. Download the right one, and install it on your new site/server following the official installation instructions. This should give you a working Nucleus site.

Backup your old site
Now go to your old site, and backup your database using the backup functionality Nucleus provides in the admin area under 'Backups'. Then fire up your FTP program and download all the files from your-old-site.com/nucleus/plugins/. These need to be moved to brand-NEW-site.com/nucleus/plugins/. Once that is done, login to the new Nucleus site, go to 'Backups' and choose to restore. Click on Browse, and on your pc locate the database backup you made earlier. Now tick of the box 'Yes, I'm sure I want to do this!' under the Restore From File button, and then click that button.

If you don't get an error, your site has been succesfully moved!
