Troubleshooting

What does it mean when "file/directory permissions are not set correctly"?

Scenario:
"I am trying to upload an image to my blog but Nucleus keeps giving me an error message saying

File/Dir permissions are not set correctly

When I look at the Global Settings in the administration area, under the Configuration section, the part for Media Directory has a warning:

Warning: Current value is NOT a writable directory!

How can I fix this so I can use images in my blog items?"

Solution:
The permissions on the /media/ must be set to either 775 or 777. You can do this through an FTP client or your web host's file manager interface. Simply navigate to the directory in which you installed Nucleus, select your /media/ directory and change the permissions accordingly.

Figure 1: Right-clicking on the /media/ directory and selecting "Properties" in the Core FTP FTP client brings up this dialogue box for you to set permissions.

In an FTP client: right-click and select "Properties" to set your permissions.
